OUR HISTORY

Exert from Woolls building Texas Historical Commission report
On June 11, 1874, Major John B. Jones organized Ranger Company F in Kerrville under the command of Captain Neal Coldwell. Most of the men who joined the Frontier Battalion from Kerr County were inducted into Captain Neal Coldwell’s Company F.  Coldwell moved his company to a camp on the Guadalupe River.  The territory of Company F covered much of Central Texas.  Major Jones reported, “Captain Neal Coldwell is an active and zealous man who shows a disposition to discipline and controls his men.”

Local legend is the Captain Coldwell obliged the men under his command to become Masons.  Coldwell and the number or Rangers who arranged the occupancy of the upper level of the Woolls Building on behalf of the Masonic Lodge evidences their level of commitment.

The members of Rising Star Lodge were leaders in the establishment of the town of Center Point.  One early member, when asked why he wished to become a Mason, replied “Well, once a month, I see all of our prominent citizens gathering to meet at the lodge.  If that is the type of man that makes for Masonry, then I would like to join.”
